Books for Kids

Books for Kids creates libraries, donates books, and implements literacy programs to develop the critical early foundation and skills which young children need to be successful in life. In 1986, the Books for Kids Foundation was created by a few individuals in New York City who recognized that children who do not have adequate access to books must surmount enormous disadvantages when entering school. What began as an informal project to collect and distribute 1,000 books to needy children for the holidays quickly took on much greater dimensions when we placed 2,000 books in the first year and 9,000 in the next. It was clear to the founders that an organization providing access to age-appropriate books for low-income children with little or no resources was desperately needed.

During an educational seminar your students will learn about the non-profit world in the United States and how this specific charity operates. They will also be given the opportunity to bring in a brand new book that is appropriate for young children, aged up to 6 years old, to be donated to a child in need. The itinerary of the seminar is as follows:-

    • Welcome and meet and greet with the Executive Director
    • Books for kids video presentation
    • Informational speaking presentation
    • Q&A from students to Books for Kids staff
    • Students can place special bookplate stickers in their donated books
    • Book donation presentation and photos
