Xian

Xian is located in the heart of the Shaanxi province of China. The region was the centre of Chinese civilization for over two millennia and where over a dozen dynasties rose and fell. The city offers the perfect base from which to explore and experience the region's remarkable history and wonderfully preserved sights.

The most famous is the 2000 year old Army of Terracotta Warriors, that was rediscovered just 30 years ago. The warriors and their horses occupy three vast underground vaults, and were originally built as guards to the, as yet unexcavated, mausoleum of the First Emperor, Qin Shihuang.

Xian itself is one of few cities in China where the original city walls are still visible, surviving from the first emperor of the Ming dynasty. Within the city, the Bell Tower, the Drum Tower and the Great Mosque are impressive sights, however for most, the highlight of the city is the Big Goose Pagoda.
