Cologne City Break

The Rhine Valley is amongst the best known regions of Germany and is a great favourite with student groups. This delightful area, with Cologne at its heart, boasts enchanting castles, picturesque villages, medieval towns and vineyards that rise steeply on either side of the river itself.

Cologne’s location on the Rhine has long been key to its status as capital of the region. It was one of the most important cities of the Holy Roman Empire and its mighty cathedral was designed to house the relics of the Three Wise Men.

Known as the Dom, the cathedral was once the world’s tallest building and is arguably still the world’s greatest gothic edifice, attracting pilgrims from all over Europe – indeed it remains Germany’s most visited attraction.
