Beijing

Capital of the most populous nation on earth, Beijing offers a fascinating insight into both the historic and the modern China. As a result of the 2008 Olympic Games, the city has recently experienced unprecedented change and development.

Highlights include Tiananmen Square, the world's largest public space, with its vast monolithic monuments to Communist glory, including an immense portrait of Chairman Mao. The square is bordered by numerous impressive sights, such as Chairman Mao's Mausoleum, the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Gate of Heavenly Peace. The Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven and the backstreet 'hutongs' are other 'must-visit' sights.

Outside of the city, the Great Wall is undoubtedly one of the world's most awe-inspiring sights and we include a visit to the Wall in all tour itineraries.

Specific educational visits can also be arranged, enabling you to speak to subject experts and involved parties. In Beijing such visits are available to the Olympic Stadium, a jade manfacturing factory, a tour guide training school and the China Science and Technology Museum.
