Study Experiences has developed a unique tour programme for school and college students combining great sights with fascinating cultural visits and exclusive educational experiences. The educational benefits to the students of immersing themselves in a totally different way of life will remain with them for many years to come.

Our tour programme starts in Beijing, where you will discover the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Monument to the Peoples Heroes, Tiananmen Square, the Olympic Birds Nest Stadium and the Summer Palace. Close to the city are some of the best preserved sections of the Great Wall, truly one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights.

Your guide will also take you amongst the city’s narrow and busy backstreets, known as ‘hutongs’, where smoky temples, courtyard houses and the hectic bustle of the local markets offer a genuine glimpse of traditional Chinese life. You will travel through the hutongs by rickshaw, which provide the best way to view these traditional areas.

From Beijing, on a 9 day tour, you will visit Shanghai via Suzhou. A delightfully traditional town over 2,500 years old, Suzhou is criss-crossed with canals and full of exquisitely landscaped gardens. Tour Highlights

In addition to the visits included below, Study Experiences can arrange a variety of other fascinating cultural visits and exclusive educational experiences.

Tiananmen Square

Tiananmen Square is the world’s largest public square, with its monolithic monuments to Communist glory, including an immense portrait of Chairman Mao. Set in the heart of the city, it also provides a poignant reminder of China’s hapless democracy movement and the 1989 demonstrations.

Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven provides the most wonderful example of Ming architecture in the city. Built in the 15th century and set in its own 200 hectare park, its dominant feature is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, which sits impressively atop a three-tiered marble terrace.

Forbidden City

The Forbidden City is a complex of imperial palaces, which for over 500 years were home to the emperors of both the Ming and the Qing dynasties. Grand halls and courtyards gradually give way to more intimate domestic areas, giving a unique insight in to the luxurious lifestyles of the emperors.

Great Wall

The Great Wall is undoubtedly one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights. Stretching almost 4500 miles, the original wall was built over 2000 years ago, however it was during the Ming dynasty that the brickwork and stone slabs were laid.

The Bund

Shanghai’s vibrant waterfront district, where you are surrounded by classic 1930s colonial architecture, provides a spectacular view across the river of the towering skyscrapers of new Shanghai.
