Now one of the world’s top city destinations and home to world class visitor attractions, Belfast is a colourful mix of arts and politics. It’s renowned for the warmth of its welcome, the vitality of its culture and the progress towards a peace few thought possible. With deliverable outcomes across a range of subjects, a trip to Belfast provides your students with a wonderful and stimulating learning experience

Belfast today is a city of contrasts reflecting it’s troubled past but also looking forward to a new shared future. From the grandeur of the City Hall and the majesty of the Parliament Building at Stormont to the ‘Peace Walls’, the buildings tell a tale seldom noticed by the casual viewer.

Study Experiences has established an exclusive tour programme for school and college students combining great sights with exclusive educational experiences. Our tour to Belfast includes Experience Belfast’s award winning, “There’s More to Belfast than Walls”. A tour specifically developed for schools and colleges delivered by local guides with outstanding local knowledge and contacts. This is no ordinary city tour but a theatrical performance with a solid educational basis that addresses key syllabus points using the medium of youth culture, ‘pop and rock music’, to keep your group interested, engaged and learning regardless of their age. It delivers vital messages around inclusion, tolerance and understanding, covers a range of subjects and areas but can be tailored to suit specific study areas. Your students will see history and politics materialize and have fun whilst doing so. Sights include the political walls and murals, Parliament Buildings at Stormont, Belfast Castle, the Entries, Belfast City Hall, the historic First Presbyterian Church and Titanic Quarter. Also included is a workshop with leading players from the arts, politics and journalism which can include a focus on "the Troubles".

Choose from:-

    • Journalism with Henry McDonald - Ireland correspondent of the Guardian and the Observer
    • Drama with Gary Mitchell - playwright
    • Documentary Film Making with John T Davis – film-maker
    • Football and Sectarianism with Michael Boyd - head of Community Relations at the IFA

Optional excursions include the impressive new Titanic Visitor’s Centre which sits where the doomed liner was built and reflects the transformation of the city from its industrial heyday to the 21st century. As Belfast is ringed by mountains and overlooks the sea, it has stunning scenery on its doorstep. Your group can head to the Giant’s Causeway along the fabulous Antrim Coast Road or maybe journey south to the wondrous Neolithic monument at Newgrange.

Tour Highlights

In addition to our 3 included visits/activities, the following can be added to your itinerary at a supplement, on request:-

Titanic Belfast

A fantastic self-guided exhibition that not only tells the iconic liner’s tale but shines a light on industrial Belfast, spread over 9 interactive galleries, with multiple dimensions to the exhibition, drawing together special effects, dark rides, fullscale reconstructions and innovative interactive features. Allow a minimum of 90 minutes for a self-guided tour. Guided tours and/or Education Workshops can be quoted for on request.

Giant's Causeway and Antrim Coast Road

Northern Ireland’s iconic World Heritage Site is home to a wealth of local history and legend. Explore the basalt stone columns left by volcanic eruptions 60 million years ago and search for distinctive stone formations fancifully named the camel, the wishing chair and the organ. The Antrim Coast Road is regarded as one of the finest coastal drives in the world and its outstanding natural beauty is used extensively in film and TV. This tour can include a stop to cross the rope bridge to Carrick-a-Rede Island – the Larrybane Quarry here was used as a film location for ‘Game of Thrones’.

Newgrange

Located just outside Drogheda, 1½ hours from Belfast, Newgrange dates from 3200 BC, making it older than the pyramids and Stonehenge. It consists of a number of burial sites and buildings, aligned to the sun. The site has a Visitors Centre which includes an extensive exhibition including a full scale replica of the chamber at Newgrange and Knowth. Your list will include a guided trip to Newgrange itself as well as admission into the Visitor’s Centre.
